Anurag Kashyap’s latest controversial offering Udta Punjab is heading with a decent pace in weekdays. The movie has been released this Friday on around 2000 screens in India with a good buzz among audience, that it gained due to censor board controversy. Despite being leaked on internet before the release, it witnessed amazing craze of fans as well as audience in weekend and registered fifth highest opening weekend collection record of the year so far.
In the weekend, Udta Punjab reported excellent performance through out and minted the amount of 33.80 crores across India, that includes 10.05 crores of Friday, 11.25 crores of Saturday and 12.50 crores of Sunday. Not only from India but from overseas market too, the movie has raked quite well business of 8.45 crores till Sunday.
The film needs to maintain a healthy run rate though for rest of the week and bring in 4 crore at least every day so that it gets into the second week with a good number of shows. While Delhi NCR and Punjab would have the film in good strength in the second week as well (though Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardaarji 2 is arriving as well), rest of the country would be impacted (in case the film falls during the weekdays) since as many as six Hindi releases and one major Hollywood film are also releasing.
Now it is running in weekdays and being normal working days, witnessing lesser footfall in theaters. With around 55% of drop than Friday, the movie did the business of 4.50 crores on Monday. On the next day i.e. Tuesday, it started the day with almost similar occupancy and estimated to collect the amount of 4.10 crores* as its 6th day box office collection . With this, the total domestic collection of Udta Punjab will become 42.40 crores* and surpass the lifetime total of Amitabh Bachchan’s Wazir (41.02 crores).
