John Cena and A.J. Styles is set to clash for the second time at SummerSlam and it has possible WWE World Championship implications. According to the latest WWE rumors, the outcome of the match is still up in the air especially with Cena’s status as a performer at the moment.
Cena and Styles both missed the latest episode of SmackDown Live because they headed early to Australia for the WWE’s tour Down Under and in New Zealand. Their match was made official last week after an intense promo segment between the two. A.J. Styles is set to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship if he goes over John Cena at SummerSlam. In their first match at Money in the Bank, The Phenomenal One was victorious following the interference of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.
On the other hand, the Cenation leader came back to pin Styles in their Six-Man Tag Match with Enzo Amore and Big Cass against The Club. It will lead to one possible final showdown to end the feud but the outcome of the match is still unknown.
The WWE has protected Cena, the company’s top babyface for more than a decade, but he is very outside wrestling. He just successfully hosted the 2016 ESPYS and Teen Choice Awards, and his American Grit television show on FOX was renewed for a second season. The 39-year-old, 15-time WWE World champion missed a couple of months late last year to film the first season of his TV show.
This is an interesting match because AJ Styles, being the excellent heel that he is, has already scored one victory over one of the longest reigning faces of the WWE, John Cena. Of course, the victory was done with the help of AJ’s friends Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson on Money in the Bag so the grudge match between the two remain alive for their upcoming match. According to Heavy, it is likely that Cena will come out the victor of the match to fan the flames of the grudge match storyline.
