If you thought Bollywood celebrities don’t care about their fans and are cut off from their choices, here’s something to prove you wrong. Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam pulled off a performance on a busy Mumbai street recently for hours, and, surprisingly, went completely unnoticed.
The master vocalist used prosthetics and make-up to hide his identity. He sat under a tree in Mumbai’s Juhu area with his harmonium and started by singing his famous song ‘Har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi’ from the film Kal Ho Naa Ho. Though a small crowd gathered around him, and many even complimented him for his silky voice, none recognised him.
Playback singer Sonu Nigam along with the YouTube channel Being Indian participated in a social experiment where Sonu Nigam disguised himself as a beggar, sat at the corner of a busy street and sang while playing a harmonium. It took a while, but people slowly noticed him and gathered around to enjoy his angelic voice singing the most melodious of pieces. Some gave him money as alms, others recorded him on their phones. One young man, after his performance, asked him if he’d eaten anything, and quietly handed him twelve rupees.
