Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol Sunday Box Office Collection

The much-awaited Mohanlal-starrer Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol was released 20th Jan. Directed by Vellimoonga fame Jibu Jacob and produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters, the family entertainer was earlier scheduled to hit the screens during Christmas 2016 but got postponed owing to the three-week long rift between Kerala Film Producers Association and Kerala Exhibitors Association.

As per early reports, the feedback from the audience is extremely positive and the family entertainer does full justice to the expectations prior to the film’s release. It’s worth mentioning that after a long time, a huge number of family audiences flocked to the theaters on the opening day itself to watch the flick. The film has been praised for its different story backed with the excellent performances from Lalettan and Meena.

Director Jibu Jacob and scriptwriter M. Sindhuraj do not take any overtly revolutionary stance in this film, yet there are baby steps worth noting. Of course we must ask when they – or any major Indian filmmaker – would treat marital infidelity by women as a source of humour and why cheating men are the subject of so many comedies, but cheating women are serious business.

The four-time National award winner’s previous three releases, Telugu film Janatha Garage and Malayalam films Oppam and Pulimurugan turned out to be all-time blockbusters at the Box Office. Interestingly, Janatha Garage became 2016’s highest Tollywood grosser while Pulimurugan and Oppam became all-time number one and all-time third industry hits of Malayalam cinema.
