Kollywood has been largely affected by demonetisation followed by the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and Vardah Cyclone. Apart from Chennai and Chengalpet, the business of films has taken a huge toll across the state for the above reasons. Now, the industry is hoping that it will end the year on a decent note with three new releases this week in the form of Kaththi Sandai and Balle Vellaiyathevaa.
Kaththi Sandai, the movie was supposed to be released in January for Pongal. As Singam 3 has been postponed, the makers of Vishal-starrer advanced the release date to December 23. It is an action-masala film which has Tamannaah Bhatia and Jagapathi Babu in the key roles. Moreover, the movie has comedian Vadivelu, who has done only countable movies in the last couple of years, in an important role. His presence in the cast is undoubtedly one of the prime attractions.
Sasikumar’s Balle Vellaiyathevaa is the least-hyped film which is releasing this week. It is a comedy movie, which is a welcome change for his fans. The low-budget movie has generated decent hype. The actor’s less-hyped films have often emerged victorious at the box office. So, it has to be seen whether it will turn out to be a crowd puller.
With these two films, the film industry is expecting to return to normalcy. The Christmas time backed by New Year holiday mood generally witnessed good footfalls. So, the industry insiders expect the three movies to pull the viewers to theatres in big numbers.
