Superstar Rajinikanth has made a major mark with his spectacular thriller movie to take it across the Rs 645 crore mark. While the collections have slowed down from the manic rate seen in the first few days, Thalaivar is powering the take ever higher as the public still finds the film to be alluring and they are landing up in cinemas in adequate enough numbers to burnish the actor’s star further.
As far as Kabali collections are concerned, the hard numbers, as they stand, include Rs 200 cr from marketing, another Rs 195 crore from the Indian collections and another about Rs 250 cr from the foreign markets with all of them adding up to a stupendous Rs 645 crore as per the latest figures available. The film has been virtually crawling towards the Rs 300 crore mark, and the earnings have fallen as low as Rs 1 crore per day. Sultan is therefore, likely to fall short of the Rs 300 cr mark by a few crore at least.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, Kabali did the amazing business in its opening week and shattered many existing records of not only Tamil cinema but Indian cinema too. It registered the whopping opening of 46.50 crores across India and dominated the record of Shahrukh Khan’s Happy New Year (44.97 crores).
In the opening 3-days weekend, the movie reported total business of 110 crores, which is higher than the first 3 days collection of Salman Khan’s Sultan (105.53 crores). Weekend total of Kabali included 46.50 crores of Friday, 30.05 crores of Saturday and 33.45 crores of Sunday. In these box office collection figures, 90.85 crores was contributed by South regions and 19.15 crores from rest of India.
