There have been quite a few releases during the past few weeks and on Aug 12, Mollywood will see three major films at the cinemas. Ranjith Sankar’s Pretham is a horror comedy with Jayasurya in the lead. The hero has another release on the same day, debutant director Sajid Yahiya’s IDI, which is the short form of Inspector Dawood Ibrahim.
Director V K Prakash is back with a comedy, Marubhoomiyile Aana, which has Biju Menon playing an Arab sheikh. Among last week’s releases, Ann Maria Kalippilaanu have received a grand welcome at the box office, while Guppy has been receiving rave reviews. IDI is a real spoof movie which takes a dig on the so-called ‘mass’ films of Southern industry. Otherwise, it is a purely entertainment oriented film with some exceptional action sequences.
The major surprise factor of the teaser is leading lady Shivada Nair’s fight sequence. The way certain characters are featured in the teaser is very similar to Lijo Pellissery’s gangster spoof film Double Barrel. Jayasurya, who essays the titular character Inspector Dawood Ibrahim, perfectly fit in the action hero avathar. It is the first full-fledged action film in his career. Rahul Raj’s background score fails to impress.
IDI is written and directed by actor Sajid Yahiya. Sujith Sarang handles the cinematography. The movie is produced by Dr. Ajas Ibrahim and Arun under the banners Magic Lantern and Eros International.
