Azhar movie featuring Emraan Hashmi, Nargis Fakri, and Prachi Desai became the sensation of industry on its opening day with whooping 6.30 crore rupees collections on a busy day. Azhar Collections for the first weekday was average, and one can understand the response because the viewers nowadays prefer to wait for a day and let the movie reviews came first. The first day collections for the movie was 6.30 crores with average 25% occupancy in the theaters across India.
In UAE-GCC, Tony D’souza’s directorial raked the commendable business of AED 0.4 million i.e. 72.72 lacs on the opening day, which is the highest ever opening of Emraan Hashmi’s career so far from there. In India, it started the day with 35% of occupancy and witnessed decent growth from evening shows, especially in multiplexes. Overall it reported the occupancy of almost 40% across the nation on Saturday. Azhar showed decent growth on its second day. The film started off on a low note but picked up decently on its second day. It collected 8.15 crores* on its first Saturday.
On its second day being 2nd Saturday of the month i.e. holiday, Azhar started the day with better occupancy than Friday and received higher response. The movie has minted the amount of 7.10 cr* with overall 40% occupancy nationwide. After 2 days, total collection of Azhar is recorded as 14.40 cr at domestic box office excluding its distribution shares. It is expected to get almost similar response on Sunday and will rake more than 20 cr in the opening weekend.
Although, the film is facing a stiff competition from the Hollywood release Captain America Civil War thus making the weekend box office collections lower for this film. The weekend will tell how the film fares at the ticket window. Azhar also stars Prachi Desai and Nargis Fakhri in key roles. It is based on the life of former Indian Cricket Team captain, Mohd. Azharuddin.
