The latest present of AR Murugadoss Akira has started its box office journey with a huge bang on the box office.The film was released on 2nd September 2016 with a huge buzz in the market. As per the expectations of the makers the film has done good business and completed its first-weekend run at the box office. The movie featured Sonakshi Sinha in the main lead role.
Akira (Sonakshi Sinha), no relation to Kurosawa, makes the journey from a colourful Rajasthan chota shehar to mahanagari Mumbai, and runs slam-bang into a convoluted plot involving a murder and missing cash and a bunch of corrupt cops, headed by the vicious ACP Rane (Anurag Kashyap, enjoying himself hugely and being extremely effective, even if very far from a Marathi-speaking native: I wouldn’t like to meet Rane in a dark alley).
Akira opened with a huge hype at the box office and succeeded in having positive comments of the audience. As per the maker’s expectations movie opened with an occupancy rate of 78% and collected a total collection of 5.15 Cr. 2nd day of the film was even better than the first one as the occupancy rate of the film increased a bit and captured a total box office collection of 5.30 Cr . Last day of the first weekend was on the peak because of the Sunday movie captured a huge collection of 5.73 Cr.
Sonakshi Sinha has enjoyed a decent run in terms of films at the overseas box-office with her previous films like Son of Sardaar, the Dabaang movies and Rowdy Rathore which grabbed a lot of eyes outside the country due to additional star power. Akira (2016) has had a decent run in the overseas in the first few days after it’s theatrical release with a total collection of Rs. 2.18 Crores. By the end of the 4th day, the overseas collection has settled down to Rs. 2.70 Crores worldwide.
