Director M Manikandan has done it again. His second movie Aandavan Kattalai, which had a quiet Friday release against actor Dhanush’s Thodari, is slowly gaining dominance at the box office.
This is not the first time that a Manikandan’s film has emerged as an unexpected winner at the box office. His National Award-winning film Kaaka Muttai (2015), which was expected only to entertain a niche audience, took the box office by storm with the support of the masses.
Aandavan Kattalai on Friday collected above Rs 2 crore, which was a good start considering the advance booking of the film was not up to the mark. However, the footfalls for the film began to increase following glowing reviews from the critics and audience. The comedy drama, starring Vijay Sethupathi, has raked in over Rs 8 crore in four days since its releases, said reports.
According to reports, the film collected Rs 4.32 crore on its opening day and only managed about Rs 6.18 crore in the next three days. On Monday, the business of film dropped further as it collected only Rs 1.05 crore, taking its five-day total box office collection to a little above Rs 11 crore.
